PADI Divemaster Requirements
To receive PADI Divemaster certification, you need to be at least 18 years old (see exception below,) have medical clearance to dive, have PADI Rescue Diver certification, have had CPR and First Aid training within the past 2 years and have logged at least 40 dives and to complete the Divemaster training, you’ll need 60 logged dives.
For those under 18 years old, but at least 15 years of age, it’s possible to register in the PADI Junior Divemaster program. This allows interested youth to complete several parts of the PADI Divemaster program and sets them up for expedited PADI Divemaster certification once they turn 18.
How Long Does PADI Divemaster Certification Take?
You’ll need to invest about six weeks to receive PADI Divemaster certification. You can do this all at once, or you can spread it out to accommodate your schedule. What Will You Learn During PADI Divemaster Certification?
PADI Divemaster certification combines online study, classroom education, confined water and open water sessions. You’ll be led through skills workshops and practical exercises which will include diving physics and physiology, decompression theory, safety and risk assessment, search and rescue, dive leading skills, dive site mapping, giving dive site briefings, working with student divers, supervision of certified divers, environmental protection practices, conducting courses, running a diving business and more.
What Does PADI Divemaster Certification Allow You To Do?
When it comes to professional diving, PADI Divemaster certification is only the beginning of the diving hierarchy. It’s the minimum requirement for being able to work in the diving profession. However, you’ll be able to work anywhere in the world that recognizes PADI certification. That includes over 6500 locations – a number that’s growing all the time.
PADI Divemasters can lead certified divers on guided dives, lead Discover Local Diving programs, teach Discover Snorkeling, PADI Advanced Snorkeling and PADI ReActivate. They can also assist PADI Instructors with Discover Scuba Diving. Divemasters can fill air tanks for themselves and others. Divemasters also become ambassadors for the activity while setting up a foundation for a career or part-time job in the world of professional diving.
